Earlier today we gave you the physical dimensions of the new Galaxy S8/S8 Plus. And now we know their official model numbers.
Last year Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge were labeled SM-G930 and SM-G935 so the logical approach would be to name the new flagships SM-G940 and SM-G945 respectively.
However this will change because of beliefs in Chinese and Korean culture. This part of Asia doesn’t want to have anything to do with the number 4 since its pronunciation in Chinese resembles the pronunciation of the word ‘death’ and thus ignoring the digit wherever they can.
According to a Chinese source, SM-G9500 will be the Chinese market’s Galaxy S8 and SM-G950X is the Global device where X will be replaced by letters depending on carrier or region; the same goes for Galaxy S8 Plus, which will go by as SM-G955X.

That info was confirmed by a leaked User Agent profile that shows the model number SM-G955U. The Profile also confirms Android 7.0 Nougat as the platform of choice for the upcoming Samsung flagship, but that's hardly surprising.
Samsung Galaxy S8 is going to be revealed at MWC in Barcelona and should hit the shelves in the middle of April.
